Erdogan invited Macron to join the Organization of Turkic States

During the conversation following the meeting of the European Political Community in Prague, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan invited his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron to join the Organization of Turkic States. Erdogan’s proposal drew laughter from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who were standing nearby.

“Macron, join the union of Turkic states if you wish,” the Turkish president sneered (the video is available on Twitter of Ragip Soylu, editor-in-chief of the Middle East Eye Turkish bureau).

Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are members of the Organization of Turkic States. The purpose of the organization is the strengthening of cooperation between the Turkic peoples of the member countries.
