Erdogan: How does he comment on Mitsotakis’ visit to Ankara – 2024-04-19 18:24:35

In his upcoming meeting with Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in Ankara, the Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

It is a kind of payback visit, said Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The prime minister will meet with the Turkish president on May 13, following the visit of Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Athens.

“This visit is an important stage in Greek-Turkish relations. We will have talks on how we can bring the relations between Turkey and Greece to a much better position,” said Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to APE.

Yesterday, announcing the date of his visit to Ankara, the prime minister pointed out that Turkey’s positions regarding the adoption of the EEZ remain “deeply problematic”.

In the context of the statements he made following the conclusion of the Summit in Brussels, Kyriakos Mitsotakis was asked regarding the reactions of Ankara following the announcement of the creation of marine parks in the Aegean and Ionian.

“Greece exercises its sovereign rights in the Aegean based on international law and the law of the sea. I am impressed by Turkey’s completely unjustified reaction to an initiative of an environmental nature. Greece will proceed with the creation of the marine parks, as I have committed at the recent Oceans conference”, the prime minister initially pointed out.

The improvement in Greek-Turkish relations is undeniable and measurable, he noted, but added that this does not “automatically lead to the working hypothesis that Turkey’s basic positions regarding the critical issue of the delimitation of maritime zones in the Aegean and the eastern Mediterranean have changed. There remain deeply problematic positions for our country”.

But, he stressed, this does not prohibit the discussion between the two sides and “to invest more in the positive agenda and less in the issues we disagree with”.

Erdogan’s comment on Israel and Iran

In today’s statements, Recep Tayyip Erdogan also made a comment on the recent developments with Israel and Iran.

“Israel says different things. Similarly, Iran has different views. We’re not adopting anything and there’s really no explanation that isn’t absurd,” he initially stated.

“You cannot say that Iran is telling the truth in its statements. You can’t say that regarding Israel anyway. They put the USA ahead. More importantly, we see that the US in recent statements has sided with Israel in the UN Security Council. While everyone is on the side of Palestine, the US unfortunately reveals its position by siding with Israel. We didn’t expect anything different anyway,” the Turkish president added.

Finally, he did not want to answer regarding the content of the talks he will have tomorrow with the head of the political office of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh.
