**Interview with Dr. Layla Hasan, International Relations Expert**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Hasan. We appreciate your insights on the increasing role of international organizations. Recently, President Erdogan highlighted the crucial function of the OIC in promoting peace and security. What are your thoughts on this?
**Dr. Hasan:** Thank you for having me. President Erdogan’s comments reflect a significant perspective on the OIC’s potential influence. The OIC, representing over 50 Islamic countries, holds a unique position in fostering dialogue among member states and addressing conflicts that impact the Muslim community worldwide. Erdogan’s call to action is timely, especially in the context of recent geopolitical tensions.
**Editor:** How effective do you think the OIC can be in mediating international disputes, given its diverse member states and varying political agendas?
**Dr. Hasan:** It can be challenging. The OIC must navigate differing national interests, which can hinder unified action. However, its strength lies in fostering collective action and solidarity among Islamic nations. If member states can prioritize shared goals over individual agendas, the OIC can play a pivotal role in conflict resolution and humanitarian efforts.
**Editor:** Erdogan’s emphasis on the OIC suggests he sees a leadership role for Turkey. What implications does this have for Turkey’s foreign policy?
**Dr. Hasan:** Erdogan’s focus on the OIC aligns with Turkey’s broader ambition to become a regional leader in foreign policy. By advocating for the OIC’s influence, Turkey can bolster its diplomatic standing among Muslim nations and position itself as a mediator in various conflicts, particularly in the Middle East. This could enhance Turkey’s geopolitical leverage and strengthen its relationships within the region.
**Editor:** What challenges do you foresee for the OIC in fulfilling this role, especially in light of current global crises?
**Dr. Hasan:** The OIC faces several challenges, including internal divisions, varying levels of political stability among member states, and external pressures from global powers. Additionally, the organization often struggles to take decisive action due to differing opinions on critical issues. For the OIC to be effective, it will need to foster unity and develop a clear strategy that addresses the most pressing challenges faced by its member states and the wider global community.
**Editor:** Thank you, Dr. Hasan, for your valuable insights. It will be interesting to see how the OIC evolves in these turbulent times.
