Erdogan calls on UN to use force to stop Israel’s attacks Últimas Noticias

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that the United Nations should authorize the use of force to stop Israel’s attacks on Lebanon and Gaza, and called for unity among Muslim countries in support of their “brothers” in these countries.

“The UN General Assembly should quickly exercise the authority to recommend the use of force, as it did with the 1950 resolution Uniting for Peace, if the Security Council fails to show the necessary will,” the Turkish head of state said in a televised speech.

Erdogan referred to Resolution 377, which states that in the event of a lack of agreement within the Council, the Assembly can even recommend to its members the use of force to maintain or restore peace.

Erdogan called on the international community to support Palestine and Lebanon “out of humanity” and called for unity among Muslim countries against Israel. “Israel’s attacks will eventually reach everyone’s doorstep. It will also affect those who watch the massacre from a distance,” Erdogan said.

“Israel’s banditry cannot be ignored any longer. Muslims must give the strongest response to this oppression. If we are not the first to support our brothers and sisters, we cannot expect others to help them,” the Turkish head of state said in a televised speech.

Erdogan said Israel has stepped up its attacks in Lebanon and denounced that “more than a thousand Lebanese have lost their lives in the last two weeks.”

Israel “asked permission” from the US to attack Lebanon by land

Israel has informed the United States that it is planning to carry out limited-scope ground operations against Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon, the US State Department confirmed on Monday.

“I have seen some reports of ground operations. We have had some conversations with them. We have been told that these are limited operations focused on Hezbollah infrastructure near the border,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a press briefing.

Miller added that it is up to Israel to provide more details on “the timing and purpose” of these operations.

The Washington Post reported Monday, citing U.S. and Israeli officials, that Israel is preparing an incursion into southern Lebanon following Friday’s bombing that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

According to the newspaper’s sources, the operation that Israel is preparing is aimed at destroying the Shiite group’s rocket launchers, but reality has shown that in this type of action, the casualties are mainly civilians.
