Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed with UN Secretary General António Guterres the development of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

This is what emerges from a telephone conversation between the two officials, held on Saturday, according to a press release published by the Communication Department of the Turkish Presidency.

During that call, Guterres told President Erdogan regarding the results of his talks in Moscow and Kyiv.

For his part, Erdogan affirmed that Turkey is ready to support the efforts of the UN regarding the humanitarian contact group, the provision of humanitarian aid and the evacuation operations in Ukraine.

He said Turkey will continue to urge Ukraine and Russia to act wisely and on the basis of reconciliation.

Erdogan said his country will firmly continue its efforts to overcome the current crisis and achieve peace.

The Turkish President also congratulated the Secretary General of the United Nations on the occasion of his birthday (April 30, 1949).

Guterres had visited Russia on Tuesday and Ukraine on Wednesday evening, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, respectively, as part of international efforts to end the war.

On February 24, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, which provoked anger and multiple reactions on an international scale, as well as the imposition of unprecedented and most severe financial and economic sanctions once morest from Moscow.

Russia poses as a prerequisite, to put an end to its operation, the renunciation of Ukraine to its plans to join military entities and alliances, including NATO, and the adoption of a status of “total neutrality “, which kyiv considers to be an “interference in its sovereignty”.
