The Lékédi Biodiversity Foundation organized the third edition of the Eramet Biodiversity Day on Saturday at the Lékédi Park in Bakoumba, near Franceville (south-east). On the program, conferences and discussions around biodiversity bringing together experts, institutions, as well as national and international partners. The Eramet Biodiversity Day took place in the presence of the Ministers of Water and Forests, Maurice Ntossui Allogo, of Environment, Climate and Human-Wildlife Conflict, Arcadia Svetlana Minguengui Ndomba Nzoma, of SMEs-SMIs, responsible for income-generating activities of income, Perfect Amouyeme Ollame Divassa and the Governor of the Haut-Ogooué province, Jacques Denis Tsanga.

This day was marked by the official launch of ‘’Gabon Green Generation by Lékédi’’which is a unique training program in the preservation of biodiversity in Gabon, for the benefit of 1,200 3rd grade students.th and second grade, from the 4 high schools located in Moanda and Bakoumba. This program is designed in partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the National Pedagogical Institute (IPN).

A travers ‘’Gabon Green Generation by Lékédi’’, “We also want to convey to our young people the desire to get involved and take concrete action to preserve the extraordinary biodiversity of Gabon. Some may make it their career. But above all, everyone will understand that we can develop a business and generate growth, while controlling its impacts and contributing to the preservation of the environment and biodiversity”said the Chief Executive Officer (ADG) of Eramet Comilog, Leod Paul Batolo.

Other notable activities of this day, the development of the Foundation’s 14,000 hectare reserve dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity, as well as the organization of research and innovation programs with scientific partners to contribute to major objectives and targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework.

“Through the Lékédi Biodiversité Foundation, we are proposing a unique project for a mining company: devoting 14,000 hectares to the conservation and preservation of biodiversity, scientific research and experimentation as well as generational training. future. Mining, transmission of traditional know-how and protection of biodiversity

The program »Gabon Green Generation by Lékédi » is organized around four objectives, namely, training young people in good environmental practices to encourage them to adopt daily actions promoting environmental protection; promote Gabon’s forests and biodiversity by highlighting the richness of its ecosystems and the importance of their conservation.

It is also a question of raising awareness of the erosion of biodiversity and the challenges of climate change by developing awareness of current and future environmental threats; and familiarize young people with environmental professions and green entrepreneurship, in order to encourage them to consider careers in this sector.

The 3rd Eramet Biodiversity Day demonstrates the Eramet group’s ambition to contribute, beyond its mining activities, to the major objectives and targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted at COP 15 in Kunming-Montreal in 2022. After Actfornature international in July 2024, the quality of Eramet’s commitments in favor of biodiversity was confirmed by the International Business for Nature Association as part of its campaign ‘’It’s Now for Nature’’.

Closing this 3th Eramet Biodiversity Day, the Lékédi Biodiversité Foundation inaugurated an exhibition dedicated to traditional professions. Visitors were able to discover local practices and know-how, contributing to the conservation of biodiversity, organized around three main themes: medicinal plants, agriculture and beekeeping.

Eramet’s commitments in favor of biodiversity, outside of its mining activities, include the development of a Foundation dedicated to biodiversity, the establishment of an annual day for the said Foundation, employee awareness and training. of managers and biodiversity referents on all of the Eramet Group’s mining sites.

Fully committed to the era of metals, Eramet aims to become a benchmark for the responsible transformation of the Earth’s mineral resources, for living well together.
