Eradicate AIDS in Quebec by 2030

From July 29 to August 2, Montreal will host the 24e International AIDS Conference. Quebec has a fairly ambitious goal, established by the United Nations (UN), to eradicate this infection. “The objectives are achievable for 2030,” assures Guy Gagnon, chairman of the board of directors of the Coalition of Quebec Community Organizations to Fight AIDS (COCQ-SIDA).

On the occasion of the conference, the coalition wishes to mobilize the community sector and challenge the three levels of government so that these two groups of actors participate in the implementation of this objective.

Compared to the height of the AIDS crisis in the 1980s, the quality of life for people with the virus has improved. “The fact remains that there are always vulnerable people to catch the virus,” said Guy Gagnon.

In closing, the chairman of the COCQ-SIDA board of directors recalls the importance of AIDS prevention and shares the obstacles that await this ambitious objective.
