Equatorial Guinea for the first time in history has a female Prime Minister | Africa

Evening 1/2, the media Equatorial Guinea reported that the President of this country, Mr. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, has appointed Deputy Minister of Education Manuela Roka Botey be Prime Minister.

This is the first time a woman has held the role in the West African country.

Ms. Botey has served as Deputy Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Sports since August 2020. She also served as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Literature and Social Sciences at the National University of Equatorial Guinea.

Botey replaces former Prime Minister Francisco Pascual Obama Asue, who held the post for nearly eight years.

Equatorial Guinea, with regarding 1.5 million inhabitants, has had only two presidents since independence from Spain in 1968.

Incumbent President Teodoro Obiang Nguema. .
