Equalizing Distribution Costs: ORES Standardizes Prices for Electricity and Natural Gas Across Regions

2023-11-01 08:09:00

MonenergieThe ORES network manager serves 7 different network zones for electricity and 5 for natural gas. For each of these areas, it charges separate distribution costs. Thus, households in Verviers currently have to pay 78 euros more for average electricity consumption than households in Walloon Brabant. ORES will put an end to it from 2024. Monenergie.be explains to you.

The fact that distribution costs differ from region to region is due to local demographics. The denser the population, the greater the number of households jointly bearing the costs of network services and the lower the distribution costs. However, from January 1, 2024, ORES will therefore equalize prices for its different network zones.

This standardization will have an impact on the distribution costs you will have to pay in these regions.

Electricity

The AIEG, RESA and the REW have thus allocated regulatory balances in the authorized 2024 income while ORES and the AIESH have not allocated any balances. Thus, electricity distribution costs will be reduced on average by 3% throughout Wallonia. Despite the standardization with ORES, the differences by region will remain the same. Residents of Wavre will still have to pay 79 euros more on an annual basis to the REW network manager than ORES customers.

The prosumer capacity price will also undergo changes. These are owners of solar panels who do not have a communicating meter. In the regions served by AIEG, AIESH and RESA, there is talk of an increase of up to 8%, while the tariff will be reduced in the network areas of ORES and REW, with a maximum reduction of 23% with ORES Est.

Natural gas

With regard to natural gas, ORES will also ensure standardization. This will lead to increases at ORES Luxembourg and ORES Brabant Wallon, but decreases at ORES Hainaut and ORES Mouscron. However, this increase will be felt more by the inhabitants of Wavre. Resa will increase distribution costs by 14.6%. Costs will be increased by 0.3% on average.
