Due to the repeated strikes of the teaching assistants affiliated with ATE that interrupt the development of the children’s school cycle, a group of self-convened parents appeared before the Bahía Blanca School Council this Thursday, expressing their discontent and demanding the cessation of the measures of strength.
In this situation, on Thursday parents from 22 schools and kindergartens, both in Bahía Blanca and Monte Hermoso, mobilized towards the School Council and presented a petition signed by more than 300 families. In said document, they demanded that they be allowed access to educational establishments to carry out hygiene tasks. The protesters clarified in the note that they did not seek to “alter the right to strike” of ATE, but rather “propose an intermediate solution.”
During the meeting, a father spoke on behalf of all and expressed his anger at the situation affecting his children. He began by saying: “You know we didn’t need to come. You know this is a serious problem. From Sarmiento’s time onwards, it has been said that education is the root of all problems in any country in the world. I can’t believe that we have to be the ones to make them realize that we are facing a terrible problem”, while everyone in the room listened attentively.
He continued with obvious annoyance: “First the pandemic, then the virtual classes and this year with all the strikes. And next year? The director of my son’s school told me: ‘Do you think that next year there will be no strikes with the change of government?’ Peronists today, radicals tomorrow… I made a proposal and told him: Can’t they find other ways to demonstrate? Why don’t they summon us and we all go together to support the ATE workers in the plaza? Without blocking streets, without politicians involved, without drums. And tomorrow morning we’re going, and those who can’t go will contribute a peso to buy them a rag so they can work with dignity. But don’t forget my children so much. I had to take my son out of School 6 because every time he went he would ask the teacher: ‘Why aren’t there activities in my folder?’ And he told me: ‘Dad, we do activities in class.’ He put me in an awkward position. Equality is not talking to X, equality is that children have classes throughout the year.
“It is not a reason to applaud, it is a reason to cry! I am paying at La Inmaculada so that my son can go to primary school, not so that they teach him four languages. I am paying for him to have classes, ma’am ”, concluded the father, in the middle of an ovation.
Bahía Blanca, a father broke out in the School Council due to the negligence of the teachers’ unions in public education, who have already told the Director of the institution that they are going to continue fighting with the next government that opposes the PJ: pic.twitter.com/tcxNFxLSGM
