Equal pay for women players; New Zealand Cricket with a historic decision, New Zealand men and women cricketers to receive equal pay

Wellington: New Zealand Cricket Board with the historic decision of equal pay for male and female players. In this regard, the New Zealand Cricket Board and the players’ association signed a five-year special agreement the other day. With this, female players playing domestically and internationally in New Zealand will be paid the same as male players.

This agreement will come into effect from August 1. In addition to equal pay, the agreement also provides female players with the same travel, accommodation and training environment enjoyed by professional male players.

New Zealand Cricket Board CEO David White responded that this is the most important agreement in their sport.

With the implementation of this agreement, the number of female players’ contracts at the domestic level will increase from 54 to 72.

Currently, male players are paid $10,250 in Tests, $4,000 in ODIs and $2,500 in Twenty20s. Once the agreement comes into effect, the same amount will be received by the female players.

But in the case of India, the gap between the salaries of male and female players is huge. While a male player on BCCI’s A Plus contract, the highest division of the BCCI, gets Rs 7 crore, in women’s cricket, women players in the A category, the highest division, get just Rs 50 lakh.

BCCI Men’s Player Contracts: A Plus – 7 Crore, A – 5 Crore, B – 3 Crore, C – 1 Crore.

Contracts in women’s category: A – 50 lakhs, B – 30 lakhs, C – 10 lakhs.
