Epic Games announced that it has laid off regarding 830 employees – approximately 16% of its total. Among them, presumably, was Sergei Galenkin, who had worked at the company since 2018 as publishing director. The announcement of this was made on the official Epic website. According to a statement by studio head Tim Sweeney, as part of the optimization, Epic will have to sell Bandcamp, acquired in 2022, and also separate the agency SuaperAwesome. Within Epic itself, regarding 250 employees were laid off as part of an attempt to cut costs. Sweeney said cuts were the only option because other cost-containment methods had proven ineffective. Galenkin indicated on social networks that he might once more write regarding video games, and also added that he no longer works at Epic. Previously, other gaming companies had made cuts. Unity closed half of the company’s offices, CDPR laid off regarding a hundred people, and Striking Distance laid off more than 30 employees, including from senior management.
