A Epic Games announced today the purchase of the Brazilian studio HEREresponsible for titles such as Wonderbox and for the franchise Horizon Chase.
Now, in addition to being part of the company that owns Fortnite, AQUIRIS will be called Epic Games Brasil, which will become Epic’s first studio in all of Latin America. In a press release, the company stated that the studio from Porto Alegre will create “innovative content and social experiences” within the battle-royale.
According to the CEOChief executive officeror executive director.”>1 from AQUIRIS and now director of Epic Games Brazil, Maurice Longoni, this news represents the continuation of the studio’s success “in creating memorable games”. In addition, he explained that titles like Wonderbox, Horizon Chase 2 and Looney Tunes World of Mayhem will continue to be operated by the developer.
We are very happy to use our experience using the Unreal Engine in game development to contribute to the future of Fortnite. […] AQUIRIS has been at the forefront of game development in Brazil and Latin America, and being part of Epic Games will bring the region’s developers to the forefront of the industry.
Also in the statement, Alain Taskan (Executive Vice President of Game Development at Epic Games) wrote:
We’ve seen firsthand the sheer talent of the AQUIRIS team in creating innovative games that appeal to a global audience, and we’re thrilled to welcome everyone to Epic Games. […] We hope that the creation of Epic Games Brasil will give us access to the immense talent that the region has to offer and help us to establish a presence in Latin America.
The acquisition comes following an investment made by the American company in April last year in the studio. At that time, the companies had only signed an agreement to release cross-platform games.
The value of the purchase and how long it will take for it to be completed, however, were not disclosed.
