Estonian Olympic Committee Joins Forces with European Olympic Committees’ EU Office

In a move to strengthen its presence within the European Union and champion sport at the highest levels, the Estonian Olympic Committee (EOK) has entered into a landmark cooperation agreement with the European Olympic Committees (EOC).

This strategic partnership, set to commence on January 1, will grant the EOK membership in the prestigious EOC EU Office, providing access to a wealth of experience and expertise.

Headed by Spyros Capralos, the EOC is the unifying body for Europe’s 50 national Olympic committees. It tirelessly works to promote the Olympic ideals throughout the continent, nurturing grassroots initiatives and delivering world-class sporting events such as the European Games, the European Youth Olympic Festival, and the Games of the Small States of Europe.

Strengthening Ties and Amplifying Estonian Sport

Estonian Olympic Committee President Kersti Kaljulaid expressed her enthusiasm regarding the agreement, stating, “As a small nation, we understand that our strength depends on cooperation. Together we can effectively promote healthy lifestyles and the European model of sport in the European Union. Joining the EOC EU Office’s valued network of experts is a logical step for us.”

The EOK will benefit significantly from the EOC EU Office’s dedicated team of professionals. This experienced team will provide invaluable support on a range of EU-related matters, with a particular focus on helping Estonia secure funding opportunities, navigate sports governance issues, and stay abreast of evolving EU sport-related legislation.

A Unified Voice for European Sport

President Capralos, who visited Tallinn a year ago to celebrate the EOK’s centenary, warmly welcomed the new agreement.

He affirmed, “Our cooperation is a step forward in strengthening the links between Europe’s National Olympic Committees and ensuring a unified approach to representing our interests in the European Union. Estonia’s active participation in European political debates and its commitment to developing sport and upholding the Olympic values will enrich our joint endeavors.”

The EOC’s EU Office acts as a vital bridge between European Olympic Committees and EU institutions, advocating for the interests of sport within the EU policy framework. This new partnership underscores the commitment of both the EOC and the EOK to promoting the power of sport, fostering healthy lifestyles, and ensuring a bright future for European sport.
