Environmentalists: six drunken hunters will lose their hunting license

During the raid on September 12. During a hunt in the Biržai district, a drunken hunter was discovered who accidentally fired a shot while coming out of the hiding place (lipina) with a loaded weapon, violating the requirements of safe behavior during the hunt.

After checking the hunter’s sobriety, the degree of drunkenness was determined to be 0.76 per thousand.

“Drinking alcohol while hunting is intolerable and can have dire consequences. A drunk or intoxicated hunter can lose orientation, in which case there is a possibility of harming other hunters, hunting the wrong animal, and possibly even obstructing a person. Fortunately, no one was hurt this time,” says Mantė Ramanauskienė, director of the Department of Wildlife Protection.

September 19 during the next inspection of hunters in the Biržai district, another person was found who hunted drunk while lying in wait. Environmentalists found him to have a blood alcohol level of 1.03.

Officials during another hunting raid on September 24. They checked three hunters in Šiauliai district and found that all of them were drunk: breathed 0.76, 0.8 and 1.08 per thousand.

On the same day, the officers identified a drunken hunter who participated in the hunt in Ukmergė district. He was found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.14.

Those found to be intoxicated who participated in the hunt face a fine of 200 to 600 euros and deprivation of the right to hunt from 11 months to 1 year 6 months.

We would like to point out that after the rulings on this violation come into force and the deadline for revocation of the right to hunt is reached, hunters will need to retake hunting exams and attend a course of lectures on the harm of alcohol and drugs to health.

As a reminder, environmentalists have the right to check the sobriety or intoxication of hunters in order to ensure safe behavior and prevent accidents during hunting. So the authorities will continue to actively check hunters.
