Environmentalists: after the release of 6,400 cubic meters of sewage, the situation in Kretinga stabilized

“The situation has stabilized, the valve of the emergency outlet of the “Kretinga vandenų” wastewater treatment plant was closed yesterday at 5:30 p.m. and sealed. According to preliminary data, about 6,400 m3 of untreated sewage could flow out. Today, the situation at the wastewater treatment plant is good – the treatment plant receives and cleans the wastewater,” the Department of Environmental Protection announced in a statement released on Thursday.

According to him, the officers continue their work in Kretinga.

Specialists of the Environmental Protection Agency were also present at the opening of the emergency sewage outlet on Wednesday, who immediately took samples of the sewage that escaped into the environment to assess the contamination. After determining biochemical and chemical oxygen consumption, suspended matter, nitrogen and its compounds, phosphorus and its compounds, and oil product concentrations in the samples, it will be possible to assess the effects.

The automatic scoop of the Kretingas city sewage treatment plant of Kretingas vandenys company was also sealed, from which on Thursday the specialists of the Environmental Protection Agency took a daily composite sample to assess the pollution of the wastewater discharged by the treatment plant. The results of the tests of the samples taken are currently awaited.

As announced, after receiving the results of the water quality tests taken on Thursday at the mouths of the Tenže River at the Kretinga and Danė Rivers, it will be possible to decide on the impact of the event on the environment.
