Doha: This year’s FIFA World Cup will help intensify environmental sustainability efforts in Qatar and the region, said Eng. Budur Al Meer.

Mr Budur al-Meer said Qatar’s sustainability strategy for the World Cup would support Qatar’s national development vision for 2030 and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. She was speaking at the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association Plastics Conference in Riyadh.

Al-Mir said Qatar had started preparations for the World Cup 10 years ago and 12 years of planning, construction and experimentation were on the horizon, with the goal of providing the best possible experience for all. She also pointed out that the petrochemical and chemical sector has played a major role in the success of major tournaments such as the World Cup.

They shared the eco-friendly attitudes and activities adopted by Qatar at sports tournaments in Qatar, including the FIFA Arab Cup. During the tournament, which ran from November 30 to December 18, the engine successfully recycled 70 percent of the waste from Al Bayt Stadium alone. Al Meer pointed out.

She also explained regarding the campaign organized by the Supreme Committee in association with Seven Clean Seas to make people aware of the need to make the world’s oceans plastic free. The campaign, called ‘One Tide’, will highlight the importance of reducing plastic waste for the people of Qatar and around the world.

Through the campaign, information on plans to reduce plastic waste will be constantly shared with the public through social media. The campaign will also remind marine life and the oceans of how plastic waste can be harmful and impactful. The campaign aims to encourage the development of a recycling culture and address the need to address environmental issues, said the head of the Sustainability Section of the Supreme Committee.
