Environmental Sector in Soyo expresses the need for a landfill – Jornal OPaís

The construction of a landfill in the city of Soyo, province of Zaire, is the way to improve the management of basic sanitation in the district, said this Monday, the local director of Environment and Basic Sanitation, João Nenkamba.

Speaking to ANGOP, the person responsible justifies this need due to the high volume of waste produced daily in this city, as a result of the increase in population density and the growth of industrial activity and service provision.

He informed that the municipal administration has already prepared the project and identified a six-hectare space for its implementation, in the town of Lumuene, which is 15 kilometers from the center of the city of Soyo.

João Nenkamba explained that the proposal was sent to the government of the province of Zaire, which, in turn, will submit it to the central structures, responsible for building the network of landfills in the country.

While waiting for this project to materialize, the source said that urban solid waste has been deposited in the dump in the Kitona neighborhood, 13 kilometers from the city.

A landfill is a space intended for the final disposal of solid waste generated by human activity, under conditions that safeguard public health and the environment.

This infrastructure consists, roughly speaking, of alternating layers of trash and earth that prevent bad smells and the proliferation of parasites. The city of Soyo currently has more than 200 thousand inhabitants.
