Environmental guards of the province claim in front of the Government House in Viedma for the lack of regulation of the law that hierarchizes and provides job stability to workers of conservation of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
At the end of July the claim was at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Environment and has now been transferred to the General Secretariat of the Interiorheaded by Ramiro Fuentes Vivanco, whom the ATE union accused of being “accustomed to mistreatment in Development Commissions, now misuses workers in their new role, ignoring the historical demands of our union.”
From the union it was indicated that “half of the workers in the sector work ten hours, earn 124,000 pesos and must take care of their social contributions by paying monotributo” with “outdated” salaries and “they do not charge bonuses, clothing or Christmas bonuses” despite the sanction of the law that establishes the statute for the sector, “approved unanimously in 2021” and that “is in the Legal and Technical area awaiting its regulation.”
Pablo Ulrich, one of the environmental guards of the provincial capital spoke with BLACK RIVER RADIO and pointed out that they are claiming “for a better contract for the environmental guards, who are as monotributistas” and “charging half of the rest of the workers.”
“They have been working for three years” under these conditions and “they are being asked to move to a better contract and there are still no answers,” adding that “We are not recognized as conservation agents, beyond the fact that there is a law that is not regulated.”
Ulrich explained that “we work as office workers six hours a day” and in case of receiving an answer “we would be recognized as workers in the protected areas of the province.”
Currently there are 40 environmental guards in Río Negro and “almost half are in this precarious format,” said the worker, while clarifying that «The environmental guards, regardless of the contract, work in the territory, monitoring, supervising, surveying fauna; It is a job with a lot of vocation” because “you are outdoors with low temperatures and in summer you are in the sun” and “serving more and more people because there are more and more tourists”.
