Environment says goodbye to Orlando Jorge Mera

The Ministry of Environment gave the last goodbye to its owner Orlando Jorge Mera with an emotional video broadcast on social networks, which reviews the official’s time in that institution for 21 months.

Jorge Mera was murdered by his childhood friend, Miguel Cruz, around noon last Monday June 6 in his office. According to the Public Ministry, the mobile of the murder was the denial of environmental permits without support.

Below is the full message posted on the ministry’s Instagram social network:

At the beginning of his term in this Ministry, on August 16, 2020, Don Orlando said that “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” and we are sure that he reached a thousand miles and surpassed them.

We have achieved great things in 21 months under his leadership, we have saved protected areas, we have saved endemic species, we have given back to nature what belongs to it, we have conserved the resources of our precious country and we ensure that our forest firefighters and park rangers have better job quality.

With our minister leading the drive for change, we have fulfilled many promised missions.

From our Ministry, we share the pain and sorrow that consumes us all as a country and we assure that these years of work in true favor of the environment will not be forgotten.

We urge everyone to follow the legacy of whoever our minister is, as Together we are more in the protection of the environment and natural resources!
