Environment: resumption of wood cutting subject to conditions

After the biological rest from July 1 to September 30, 2023, the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development (MEDD) announced, through a press release, this Thursday, October 5, 2023, the resumption of cutting and transport of wood on the entire extent of the national territory from Friday October 6, 2023 until June 30, 2024.

This recovery is, however, strictly reserved for people with approval, following obtaining a cutting permit. “The transport and marketing of wood are subject to the possession of professional merchant cards and transport slips for the products concerned. Furthermore, the export of raw wood remains and remains prohibited. However, the export of semi-finished and finished wood products is authorized in accordance with current regulations. It remains understood that the control and monitoring of wood cutting and transport operations must be ensured by the competent technical services of the forestry administration,” the press release specifies.

The Minister of the Environment, Safiatou Diallo, warned that she reserves the right to seize and take legal action once morest any offender who does not obey this press release.

The Forest Code in its articles 16, 53 to 92 recognizes logging as a regulatory activity.
