After the transition from the state health system to the IMSS-Wellness program, Colima will receive this year an investment of 533.3 million pesos for almost 700 new positions for professionals, including medical personnel and specialists, nurses and paramedics; increase the supply of medicines, as well as medical equipment and achieve substantial improvements in the entity’s hospital infrastructure, which will allow universal coverage to be achieved.
In the breakdown of this investment, 135.8 million pesos correspond to the hiring of 238 new positions for female and general physicians, 30.6 million for 41 new positions for female and specialist physicians, 133.9 million for 373 male and female nurses, as well as 14.7 million for hire 39 paramedics. In addition, 43.1 million will be allocated for the acquisition of 3,611 first-level medical equipment, 118.3 million for 957 second and third-level equipment, and 56.9 million pesos in 19 improvement actions, which will allow the hospital infrastructure in the state of Colima.
In such a way that this process of transition to the new model aims to increase the number of health personnel, the supply of medicines and healing material, as well as improve the conditions of the hospital infrastructure, the statement said.
During the recent work tour of the state of Colima by the Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer Varela, and the general director of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), Zoé Robledo Aburto, who toured with the governor the Ixtlahuacán Hospital and the Materno Infantil of Villa de Álvarez, installed the transition table for the implementation and operation of the IMSS-Wellness program, and reported that the administration of the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will allocate 533.3 million pesos for quality medical care to the population of Colima who He still does not have social security.
The general director of the IMSS explained to the authorities and medical personnel of Colima that this investment considers only the cost of the missing staff for the optimization of medical care and services in our entity, estimating the operation until December of this year, since by 2023 will be considered in the budget for the following year.
With these actions, the presidential instruction to strengthen the IMSS-Wellness care model in four areas will be fulfilled: infrastructure, health personnel, medicines and healing material, and very importantly, the regularization of personnel.
After the process of field diagnostic survey and verification carried out by federal and state health authorities in the state of Colima, between January 10 and 21 of this year, it was revealed that there are 151 medical units in the entity: 145 correspond to the first level of care (health centers), five at the second level, and one more at the third level of hospital medical care.
It is the third entity in the country in which the IMSS-Wellness program is established, following Nayarit was the first, while Tlaxcala and Colima did it practically simultaneously.
