Enthusiasts of historic cars have united for a special trip: they will repeat the route of the Baltic Road | Culture

This special trip not only commemorates one of the most important events in the history of the restoration of independence of the Baltic States, but also unites the enthusiasts of these countries’ historic vehicles.

The historic car ride is being held for the second time. The first such event took place in 2019, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Baltic Way. This time the journey started from Vilnius to Tallinn, and this year the motorists will start from Tallinn, the Song Festival Square.

The journey will last almost 700 km. along the most picturesque roads, cities and towns of the Baltic States. It will be possible to see the unique spectacle of a united car convoy in Estonia on August 20-22 in the cities of Tallinn, Kohila, Türi, Viljandi, Karksi-Nuja, Lilli, in Latvia – on August 22-23 in the cities of Valmiera, Cesis, Riga and Bauska.

In the afternoon of the same day, the impressive convoy of historic cars will be welcomed in Pasvaly, later in Panevėžys, and on August 24, Saturday, the historic march through Ukmergė will finish in Vilnius.

As many as eleven cities of the Baltic countries will host historic car exhibitions in the open air. In Lithuania, such exhibitions will be available in Pasvaly, Panevėžys, Ukmerge and Vilnius.

Record number of participants

The event is jointly organized by three clubs uniting historic vehicle enthusiasts from the Baltic countries: the Association of Old Vehicle Clubs of Estonia, the Latvian Historic Car Club and the Lithuanian Classic Car Club “Klasika”.

Registration for this hike was suspended on July 15. As many as 379 motorists from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Finland and Ukraine registered to participate in the “Baltic Road-35” walk. The largest group of travelers, as many as 124 participants, will be from Estonia. 38 Lithuanians, 40 Latvians will participate in this trip, and three crews from Poland, one from Ukraine and one from Finland will join the ranks of participants.

Almost a hundred years old

Among the 211 vehicles registered on the “Baltic Road-35” trip, several will stand out due to their extremely respectable age and historical value.

Among them is the 1930s. Chrysler Six CJ (Owner Madis Kõrvits), 1931 Bentley Racing Green Speed ​​8 (owner Albinas Monstavičius), 1933 Chrysler CO6 (Owner Janno Hannus), 1935 DKW F5 Front-Luxus (owned by Indrek Sirk) and 1935 “Mercedes-Benz 290 Cabrio D” (owner Stanislovas Bartkevičius). These vehicles not only reflect the evolution of the automotive industry, but are also unique in their design and history.

The final In Vilnius Auto Museum

The finale of the event awaits in the largest museum of historical vehicles in Lithuania. On the last Saturday of August, August 24, visitors to the Auto Museum will have the opportunity to see a unique spectacle – a huge exhibition of historic vehicles under the open sky.

Participants of the event who covered almost 700 km. and after retracing the route of the Baltic Way, they will gather at the parking lot of the former capital’s Taxi Park. Residents of Vilnius and guests of the capital will be able not only to visit the Vilnius Auto Museum, but also to admire historical cars from different countries of the world.

Museum on August 24 will work longer: from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and the open-air museum will be open until 11:00 p.m. It is recommended to arrive by public transport or leave your car near the museum.
