The Special Committee for the Inquiry into the Implementation of the Hajj (Pansus Angket Haji) 2024 of the Indonesian House of Representatives is collaborating with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) to ensure the safety and security of witnesses who are willing to provide honest and open statements.

Spokesperson for the DPR RI Hajj Inquiry Committee, Wisnu Wijaya, said that this was also done to support the smooth running of tasks during the investigation process.

A number of witnesses who have been called to provide information by the special committee, according to him, come from both government and non-government elements. “LPSK will accompany the investigation process of the hajj organization until the investigation by the DPR’s special committee for hajj inquiries is complete,” said Wisnu, Monday (2/9).

So far, according to him, witnesses from the hajj congregation have begun to receive great pressure from irresponsible parties. The pressure, according to him, was also felt by members of the DPR RI Hajj Inquiry Committee.

For approximately two weeks, Wisnu said the investigation by the DPR’s Hajj inquiry committee began to find a bright spot regarding the parties suspected of being responsible for the misappropriation of the additional Hajj quota.

For this reason, according to him, the presence of LPSK will provide protection in physical form, such as providing… safe house and close supervision to legal assistance for witnesses who experience threats and lawsuits as a result of the information provided to the DPR Hajj Inquiry Committee.

“The protection is given based on the witness’ personal request or can be through a request from the DPR’s Hajj inquiry committee,” said the member of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives.

Previously, the 21st Plenary Meeting of the Indonesian House of Representatives of the Fifth Session of the 2023-2024 Session Year, at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday (9/7), approved the formation of the Special Committee (Pansus) for the Hajj Supervision Inquiry.

“Can we agree to the formation and composition of the names of the members of the Hajj Supervision Inquiry Committee as proposed?” said Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, which was greeted with a “yes” response from the members of the Indonesian House of Representatives who attended the session.

He said that the formation of the special committee and its membership composition was in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations, where the members of the special committee consisted of the PDI Perjuangan faction (seven people), Golkar Party (4), Gerindra Party (4), Nasdem Party (3), Demokrat Party (3), PKS (3), PAN (2), and PPP (1).

The Hajj Inquiry Committee was formed to conduct an investigation into the implementation of a Law (UU) and/or government policy that has a broad impact on people’s lives. (J-2)
