Despite the fact that the technology of tattooing does not stand still, this procedure is still not absolutely safe. How to protect yourself, said Svetlana Mashkova, an infectious disease doctor, medical director of Invitro-South, in an interview with Gazeta.ru.

According to the physician, during tattooing there is a risk of contracting hepatitis B and C, as well as HIV infection. Now this rarely happens, as specialists use disposable instruments.

“Most often, when using non-disposable instruments, diseases such as viral hepatitis B, C, HIV, herpes simplex virus and staphylococcal are transmitted. Hepatitis C, B and HIV are transmitted with someone else’s blood, entering the bloodstream of a healthy person. This can happen when applying a tattoo if the needle was previously contaminated with the blood of an infected person. Mashkova explained.

She added that it is impossible to recognize hepatitis in the early stages. Moreover, there are cases when a person throughout his life does not know that he is sick. Sometimes acute viral hepatitis develops, which ends with either recovery or the development of a chronic disease and cirrhosis of the liver.

To protect yourself from hepatitis B, the specialist recommends getting vaccinated.

There are no vaccines yet for hepatitis C and HIV.

In addition, the infectious disease specialist advised to make sure that the master uses new needles and tips, and disposes of them following use. In addition, the specialist must disinfect the skin, as well as use a mask and gloves.
