If the police force had dispatched agents on the spot to ensure the safety of the people and the businesses of the surroundings, no overflow was observed during the demonstration, indicated a public relations officer.

According to the SPVM, few demonstrators had moved and no statement of offense was distributed during the event to begin around 7 p.m.

Echoes of France in Montreal

For its part, France faced almost a week of nights of riots in reaction to the death of a teenager shot dead by the police during a traffic check.

Video showed two police officers at the car window, one with his gun pointed at the driver. As the teenager drove forward, a police officer fired once through the windshield. The police officer accused of killing the teenager received a preliminary charge of intentional homicide.

French authorities have repeatedly tried to calm the situation, as tens of thousands of police try to come to terms with the protests.

At the latest news, more than 3,000 people have been arrested in connection with this massive deployment.
