Abu Dhabi | The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority is conducting an extensive study of the food supply in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The first-of-its-kind study is part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to ensure food security and improve public health and quality of life.

The study will last for two years. It is expected to be completed by December 2025. Food samples will be collected from all food outlets including supermarkets, retail stores, grocery stores, fast food restaurants and popular restaurants in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra. Samples include commonly consumed foods, including meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, fruits, grains, beverages, water, and other foods consumed by consumers on a daily basis.

Samples will be analyzed in specialized laboratories to determine the potential content of chemical contaminants, including heavy metals, pesticide residues, veterinary drugs, mycotoxins, nitrates, nitrites, and acrylamide. The study will help determine proper eating habits and improve food safety measures to reduce exposure to harmful chemicals.
