Ensemble of 25 marimbas in Antigua Guatemala this Sunday
More than 250 marimbists will participate this Sunday, July 21, in the activity organized within the framework of the 500 years of the third settlement of Guatemala City

The ensemble, organized by the Hormigo Movement/ Marimbas por Guate with the support of the Municipality of Antigua Guatemala, will feature the participation of 25 marimbas.
The melodies
More than 250 marimbists, including adults, children and young people, will meet to play traditional songs in unison.
Some of the melodies they will perform are: Maricumbia by Anibal Delgado Requena, Youth from Antigua by Manuel Samayoa, Nayo’s flip flops Capero, by Guillermo de León; My Lupita by Ovidio Urizar, among others. And there will be no shortage Moon of Xelajú by Paco Perez and the High Railway by Domingo Bethancourt.

Mainly groups from the area will participate, but there are groups from all over the country:

Where to watch it
Giant screens will be placed in the Central Park of Antigua Guatemala so that all attendees can watch this magnificent event.
The ensemble will also be broadcast live on the official pages of Movimiento Hormigo and the Municipality of Antigua Guatemala.
Guinness Award 2021
In 2021, Movimiento Hormigo/Marimbas por Guate organized the World’s Largest Marimba Ensemble with 150 marimbas, which earned it a Guinness record by bringing together the largest number of marimbists on the planet (505) playing a 5-minute and 20-second piece at the same time.
On that occasion a special arrangement was made to interpret Moon of Xelajú y The Highlands Railway in one piece.
