ABU DHABI -> The Ministry of Human Resources Emiratization has requested citizens and residents to enroll in the unemployment insurance scheme by October 1. A fine of Dh400 will be charged from those who do not enroll in the scheme, the ministry said. The scheme applies to all individuals working in the private and federal sectors, irrespective of their citizenship or residency status. But it does not include self-employed business owners, domestic workers, temporary workers, persons under the age of 18, and retirees who have taken a pension and started working with a new employer. The insured (employee) can claim insurance compensation following being enrolled in the unemployment insurance scheme for at least 12 months. If the insured cancels their residency or starts a new job during the processing period, they lose their right to compensation. Insurance claims are processed within 14 days of submission. The compensation amount is determined by taking 60% of the average basic salary during the six months preceding the unemployment. This compensation is paid for a maximum period of three months from the date of unemployment unless the employee is dismissed or voluntarily resigns for disciplinary reasons. The aim of the scheme is to improve the labor market and provide social protection to workers, ensuring a satisfactory standard of living for the employee and their family until they find new employment opportunities.
