An official source in the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior confirmed that a security force had arrested the head of the Ennahda movement, Rashid Ghannouchi, this evening, in implementation of the issuance of an arrest warrant from the Public Prosecution in the judicial pole for combating terrorism.
The official source in the Tunisian Ministry of Interior stated, in statements to the Tunis Africa News Agency, this evening, Monday, that the security forces searched the house of Rashid Ghannouchi and confiscated all evidence of investigations, with the permission of the Public Prosecution in the Judicial Pole for Combating Terrorism.
The security official added that Ghannouchi will remain pending investigations in a case related to inflammatory statements he made, until action is taken in his regard.
For its part, the Ennahda movement said in a statement issued by it that a security force “raid this evening the house of Rashid Ghannouchi, head of the movement, and took him to an unknown destination.”
The movement denounced what it called “the dangerous development and demanded the immediate release of Rashid Ghannouchi.”
