Any citizen of Seoul can enjoy a classical performance at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts for just 1,000 won.

On the 1st, the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts announced that the first performance of ‘Everyone’s Classic’ will be held at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts at 5 p.m. on the 31st of this month. Classical performances are scheduled to take place a total of seven times until the end of the year.

‘1,000 Won Happiness’, where you can enjoy cultural content for 1,000 won, is a cultural sharing project that the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts has been carrying out since 2007. It is a program that allows Seoul citizens to enjoy various performances, such as opera and madangnori, for an admission fee of 1,000 won. Last year, the number of visitors reached approximately 21,000.

This is the first time that a classical performance is being presented at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. Last year, audiences of ‘A Thousand Won of Happiness’ ranked classical performances as the number one performance they wanted to see the most.

An official at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts explained, “Although domestic classical musicians are sweeping the world stage and famous foreign orchestras are visiting Seoul, it is true that the threshold for classical performance is still high for the general public.”

The first classical performance on the 31st is <이금희의 해설 클래식 ‘일상을 만나다’-내 귀에 클래식>The Millennium Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Choi Young-sun, will perform Strauss II’s ‘Sound of Spring Waltz’ and Mozart’s ‘Clarinet Concerto’. In addition to the performance, announcer Geumhee Lee will provide commentary on the song.

For this performance, seats will be allocated separately for culturally underprivileged groups. 30% of the total audience seats will be operated as ‘Happy Companion Seats’ and will be provided free of charge to economically underprivileged groups such as low-income and second-lowest income groups.

General visitors can enjoy the performance for a minimum of 1,000 won, but they can set the price of the performance themselves and reserve a ticket for a maximum of 10,000 won. The Sejong Center for the Performing Arts plans to be the first to introduce an admission fee selection system that directly selects a price tab that reflects the value and expectations of the performance when making a reservation.

Citizens who want to see the performance can apply on the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts website starting at 2 p.m. on the 5th.

Ahn Ho-sang, president of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, said, “The Everybody Classic, newly introduced this year, is a citizen empathy project to realize cultural welfare without blind spots as part of Seoul’s vision of walking with the underprivileged.” He added, “Any citizen can enjoy high-quality classical performances without burden.” “I will work hard to create a Seoul that does not exist,” he said.
