Attention is a complex function involved in obtaining and maintaining alert states, orientation to stimuli, selection of stimuli and events, and regulation and direction of thought. Being a complex function, we find different subtypes of attention, such as focus and concentration, which are important to eliminate everything that distracts us and so that we can deal effectively with a task.

“Attentional processes sustain, enhance, or inhibit other mental processes, allocating cognitive resources that allow us to perform tasks effectively. They are great allies of memory, given that in order to remember information we first need to acquire it, which only happens if we can pay attention”, says Andrea Carolina Palmieri, a member of INECO’s Department of Neuropsychology.
