Enhancing Artistic Knowledge: Online Courses on Freelance Law and AI Copyright at Art Noto, Tokyo

An online course will be held at the Tokyo Art and Culture Support Center “Art Noto,” where participants can learn the basic knowledge of laws and systems related to the field of arts and culture, as well as useful information for their activities.

In the 2024 fiscal year, two themes will be addressed: “The Freelance Law and Labor Laws” relating to “Work,” which will be enacted in November, and “AI and Copyright,” which is a topic that is constantly evolving.

Event Overview

■On the Freelance Law, Labor Laws, and Laws Concerning “Work”
Recently, the so-called Freelance Law has been enacted and will soon come into effect. This explanation will cover how freelancers are protected, how labor laws are related, and the differences between freelancers and employees. It will be presented in an easy-to-understand manner.

■Proper Interaction and Usage with AI
With the advent of generative AI, the relationship between AI and copyright has come into focus. This course will explore three commonly contentious areas: (1) instances of training AI with copyrighted materials, (2) situations where AI-generated works are similar to copyrighted works, and (3) the possibility of protection for AI-generated works, starting from the basics.
