Enhancing Accessibility and Support for the Disabled in Tlaxcala: State Government Programs and Benefits

In order to ensure that a greater number of Tlaxcalans know and access the benefits of the programs promoted by the State Government to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities in vulnerable conditions, the State Welfare Secretariat strengthens the attention that provides to this sector of the population.

Through the citizen service office that was set up in the Comprehensive Welfare Directorate of the state agency, located in the municipality of Apizaco, the process is expedited so that Tlaxcalan families are beneficiaries of the social programs developed by the Welfare Secretariat.

In this space, users know in detail the process to be a beneficiary, as well as the requirements and scope of the strategies Delivery of Functional Aids, Pension for the Well-being of People with Permanent Disabilities, as well as physical therapy and rehabilitation services, psychology and equine therapy.

With these actions, the Ministry of Well-being seeks to improve the living conditions of Tlaxcalans who live with a disability to contribute to their independence and social inclusion and support their families.

The Functional Aid Delivery program distributes free wheelchairs for adults and infants with cerebral palsy, canes for the blind, aluminum walkers, crutches, mattresses and anti-decubitus cushions, children’s orthopedic insoles, diapers and prostheses, among others.

The Pension for the Well-being of People with Permanent Disabilities program grants bimonthly economic support of 2,950 pesos to support Tlaxcalans from 30 to 64 years of age.

Likewise, comprehensive and quality therapy and rehabilitation services such as electrotherapy, mechanotherapy and sensory chamber are provided focused on generating physical well-being in people with temporary or permanent disabilities in situations of poverty or vulnerability.

People can also access the Psychology service, where they learn effective ways to solve, face and manage situations that cause them stress and anxiety.

In addition, there are alternative therapies such as Equine Therapy that uses the horse as a facilitator in therapeutic intervention and stimulates the patient to improve aspects of the treatment channeled through the psychological area.
