London: England’s batsman Alex Hales has retired from international cricket. The actor announced his retirement through an Instagram post. Hales, who has played for England in all three formats, was a key player in the England team that won the 2022 T20 World Cup. Hales is also the first English batsman to score a century in T20Is.

“I am proud to have played 156 matches across three formats for the country. Some memories and friends were made that will last a lifetime. “I feel like the time is right to move on from here,” Hales noted.

Hales has scored 5066 runs in 156 matches for England. He scored 2419 runs from 70 ODI matches and 2074 runs from 75 T20 matches. Hales has excelled in all formats, but it is his explosive batting in T20s that makes him stand out. Hales is also one of the three players to have scored 2000 runs in Twenty20 for England. Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan are the others.

Noting that his journey in an England shirt has had many ups and downs, Hales also recalled the moments in the 2022 World Cup final, where he last played. The player added that even though he has retired from international cricket, he will still play for various franchises. Hales currently plays for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.
