England are hoping for the power of Georgia Stanway once more in the semi-final once morest Sweden on Tuesday. FC Bayern can look forward to an extremely talented player who brings with her many different qualities.

When England’s women successfully completed the tough fight once morest Spain last Wednesday, container wagons that seemed almost indefinable rolled through the mixed zone. Stuffed full of pizza, ice cream and cake, they were on their way to the English dressing room. The music was already loud, in the end it was a lavish dance party that the English women celebrated.

“Celebrate moments like this”

“Rachel Daly loves Celine Dion, so that was our music first. Then I put on Abba and that’s when the party really got going,” Ella Toone later explained affably. Even Sarina Wiegman, described by many as a bit harsh, commented encouragingly: “Celebrate moments like this, girls. They don’t happen that often in football life,” she said to the players, according to Toone.

Right in the middle and of course there was the winning goalscorer Georgia Stanway, the future player of FC Bayern Munich. The 23-year-old ventures into a new world following seven years with Manchester City following the European Championship. “Bayern Munich is a fascinating club. I’m really looking forward to the club and the Bundesliga challenge,” she said recently.

All risk, lots of determination – Stanway’s goal was exemplary

With Stanway Bayern get a so-called “mentality player”. Her goal once morest Spain to seal the game 2-1 in extra time may be emblematic of Stanway’s character. With full risk and great determination, she threw the ball into the net of the Spanish goal following a solo from a good 19 meters. There was a lot of will and a whole portion of first-class technology.

Stanway, who grew up in a family of athletes, learned both early on. Growing up in the small town of Barrow in North West England, she was passionate regarding football from an early age. Which has a lot to do with her three brothers. When she went to play soccer with her friends, Georgia was there. At the age of four she stormed the soccer field with the older boys. “She was like a little dynamo, full of energy,” her former youth coach Steve Liddicott recalled in the “Daily Mail” regarding the lively Stanway.

At 16 to the “big ones”

She continued to develop splendidly and soon switched to Blackburn Rovers, where her idol Alan Shearer was under contract. After four years at Blackburn, she joined Manchester City at the age of 16, where she went on to become the club’s top scorer as an attacking midfielder. She won seven national titles with the club, and in 2019 she was the youngest English team member in the World Cup squad.

Her move to Bayern has surprised many pundits – including her boyfriend Olly Ashall-Bott, who is a professional rugby player. She will have a long-distance relationship with him in the coming months – which once more points to Stanway’s tremendous sporting ambition. “I want to lift as many trophies as possible before I lift any babies,” she recently replied when asked regarding family planning.

First the European Championship title

The Bavarians get a sportswoman who is hungry for success, but who now wants to reach for the stars with the English team. The aim is to win the European title – on Tuesday, Sweden must first be eliminated in the semi-finals.

“We’ve learned to live with setbacks and to put up with them. That shows the level we’re at,” said Stanway following her golden goal. If a similar game succeeds once morest Sweden, they will probably have to make room once more in the mixed zone. For the roll containers with pizza, ice cream and cake.
