SYDNEY (AP) — Lauren James scored following six minutes in her first start at the Women’s World Cup on Friday as European champions England beat Denmark 1-0.
Substitute Amalie Vangsgaard came close to leveling in dramatic fashion near the end with a header hitting the post, but England held on to record back-to-back wins.
The forward, who came on as a substitute to score Denmark’s winning goal once morest China in the first Group D match, beat England goalkeeper Mary Earps but her shot hit the post.
James, who started as a substitute in their opening game once morest Haiti, quickly made an impression following being considered a starter by coach Sarina Wiegman.
