Without their coach Sarina Wiegman, who tested positive for the corona virus, England also won the third group game at the European Football Championship. As expected, the Lionesses beat Northern Ireland 5-0 (2-0) on Friday in Southampton.
It was 40 minutes before Fran Kirby was able to write for the hosts for the first time, but then things happened in quick succession. Beth Mead (45′) before the break and Alessia Russo (48′, 53′) quickly made things clear.
An own goal by Kelsie Burrows (76′) rounded off England’s victory in front of over 30,000 spectators. Mead now has five EM hits. The co-favorites ended the group with a goal difference of 14:0.
Wiegman had tested positive for the corona virus on Friday. The 52-year-old was replaced in the Group A final by her assistant Arjan Veurink. England had already qualified for the quarter-finals following beating Austria (1-0) and Norway (8-0).
