Engie sells its fiber optic network to euNetworks

Engie resells its 1,660 kilometer Belgian fiber optic network to a British telecom group. The deal is expected to be finalized at the end of April.

Engie’s fiber optic network dates from the late nineties. It is located mainly in Brussels and on long distance routes, which means that it is also close to thirteen data centers. These long distance deployments consist of dark fiber. euNetworks will provide existing customers with both dark fiber and lighting services.

euNetworks is a relatively unknown player in our country, but it focuses on fiber optic connectivity between European cities. The amount of the takeover of the Engie network has not been communicated. In the newspaper De Tijd, a spokesperson for the energy firm said that these are historical activities, when Engie was still active in the telecom market, but which are no longer developed. However, the network has recently undergone a few upgrades.

“This network goes hand in hand with commercial and operational contracts, including long-term dark fiber contracts, which can generate additional revenue for euNetworks, but also important indirect relationships,” said the CEO of euNetworks. euNetworks, Paula Cogan, in a statement.
