Engie Drive: Earn Bonus Cash by Charging Your Electric Car During Off-Peak Hours

This new formula (Engie Drive) is aimed at people who regularly recharge their electric car at home. An application is linked to it. For each smart charging session scheduled via the app, customers will receive a bonus of 1.5 euro cents per kilowatt hour billed.

According to the energy supplier, it is the first to financially encourage its customers to recharge their vehicle during off-peak hours. Other suppliers, however, offer special contracts for those who drive electric.

The company also has an interest in people charging during off-peak hours, when electricity supply is plentiful and demand is low, such as in the evening or on weekends. “By encouraging customers to recharge during off-peak hours, Engie helps maintain a balance on the network. The advantage that we derive from it is shared with the customer via this bonus”, specifies a spokesperson.

Indeed, in the event of an imbalance on the network, the high voltage network managers must intervene, which costs money. It is therefore important for energy companies to balance their portfolio.

Engie’s offer is not yet compatible with all car brands. Manufacturers must indeed authorize the connection of the app’ to the vehicle. Over time, more and more brands should have access to it, according to the company.
