Enfamil Infant Formula Recall: Cronobacter sakazakii Contamination Alert

2024-01-01 15:46:11

Enfamil brand infant formula is being recalled due to possible contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii bacteria.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) indicated on Sunday that the formulas affected by this recall were sold across the country under the name “Nutramigen A+ LGG Hypoallergenic (infant formula)”, in formats 561g and 4 X 561 g.

The packages bear the UPC numbers “0 56796 00498 2” and “0 56796 00498 5”, as well as the codes and expiration date: “Item# 3230626”, “Expiry 01-JA-2025”, “Batch # 0704376 (ZL3FVY)”.

Anyone who possesses these preparations should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

“Food contaminated with Cronobacter sakazakii does not necessarily show visible spoilage or a suspicious odor, but can still make you sick,” the CFIA said.

This bacteria can, in rare cases, cause rare infections of the bloodstream and central nervous system. It has also been linked to serious intestinal infections and blood poisoning, particularly in newborns.
