Energy voucher 2022: who will benefit from this exceptional aid, when, and for what amount?

We know more regarding the exceptional energy check which will be distributed to 12 million households in the coming weeks, worth 100 to 200 euros.

12 million households will be able to benefit from this boost. This Sunday, December 11, the government published Decree setting the terms of eligibility and validity of the exceptional energy check for the year 2022. This aid should make it easier to pay bills for the most modest.

When will the energy check be sent?

According to AFP, quoted by The Parisianautomatic sending will start from the end of the monthover a period of approximately 8 weeks.

Distributed since 2018, an energy check is paid once a year in the spring to some six million poorest households, to which is added this exceptional check for 2022.

What will be its amount?

It will be understood between 100 to 200 euros. Compared to the classic energy check, the decree extends the expiry date of the exceptional energy check by an additional year, detail our colleagues.

How to use this exceptional help?

The energy check cannot be cashed by your bank. It is used to pay various expenses directly to energy suppliers (electricity, natural gas or liquefied petroleum, heating oil, wood, biomass or other fuels for heating supply or hot water production), details public service website.

• You can use your energy check to pay your expenses directly online ; it is then directly credited to your customer account (the list of suppliers accepting online payment is available on the energy check website; other suppliers may accept payment online in the future) or by handing it directly to your supplier.

• To have your energy check for the next few years directly deducted from your electricity or gas bill, you can request its pre-allocation, either on lineor by ticking the pre-assignment box on the energy check before sending it to your supplier, if it offers this service.
• This check can also be used for finance energy efficiency work meeting the criteria required for the energy transition tax credit.

Until when can this energy check be used?

Energy suppliers “are only required to accept the exceptional energy check as payment until March 31, 2024”, and it “can only be presented for reimbursement until May 31, 2024“, warns the decree.

In addition, compared to the classic energy check, this represents validity for an additional year.
