“The auctions will take place and will bring more than R$ 56 billion in investments for energy transmission in the Northeast”, said Silveira

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, announced this Friday, the 5th, that auctions scheduled for 2023 and 2024 should contract more than R$ 56 billion in investments for energy transmission. Of this total, around R$ 30 billion are for infrastructure installed in the Northeast region, and the rest, in other regions, will also serve to dispose of the energy produced in the Northeastern states.

“The auctions will take place and will bring more than R$ 56 billion in investments for energy transmission in the Northeast”, said Silveira, during the meeting on renewable energies of the Consortium of Governors of the Northeast, held at the Ceará Events Center (CEC).

To the governors, the minister said that he had received from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva the directive to transform the Northeast into the biggest source of clean and renewable energy in the world. “We are working to enable the installation of this incredible potential of 30 Gigawatts of renewable generation”, he said. According to him, this should unlock more than R$ 120 billion in private investments in the area of renewable energy generation.

The government and the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) already planned to hold two transmission auctions this year. One of them, scheduled for June, should contract R$ 15.8 billion in investments and has already had the draft public notice approved by the regulatory body. The second event should take place on October 31, with expectations of raising R$ 19.7 billion in investments.

“In this first semester, R$ 16 billion will be auctioned. Another BRL 20 billion by the end of 2023, and another BRL 20 billion are scheduled for next year”, said Silveira, indicating that a third event should only take place in 2024.

“We are going to work together, too, so that, in the near future, we can consume this energy right here, in the Northeast region, opening more industries, producing green hydrogen, generating more jobs and income for the people of the Northeast”, said the minister, according to whom investments in transmission will enable the entry of renewable energy into the national system and reduce costs for consumers.

“We are going to make new renewable plants viable, with a fair tariff, energy security, environmental responsibility and the generation of decent jobs and income, improving the quality of life of our people”, he said.
