The government announced on Tuesday a series of measures to help Belgians who have difficulty paying their energy bills. In the TV News, Prime Minister Alexander De Croo pointed out that it was already the “third package“measurements.”In 2022 we made three billion in total, it’s unheard of, but it must be said that we are faced with prices never seen before. The package is wide and I specify that those who have already bought fuel oil this year will be able to retroactively recover the 200 euros on their invoices“.
To those who believe that these measures are “too little” or “too late”, Alexander De Croo promises that an assessment will be made: “If in September we see that we are still in prices that are too high, it is clear that we will extend the measures. We hope that by then the war will be over in Ukraine, and that things will have calmed down.”.
According to him, the basic problem is that “the gas markets have become completely hysterical, with prices that do not correspond at all to reality. The European Commission will come at the end of next week with price cap measures.
