Fritz Pöltl (FCG-ÖAAB): “Profit of 1.8 billion euros was only possible through a trick and the customers pay for it!”
Vienna (OTS) – The fact that the association was able to come up with a profit increase of almost 58 percent at its half-yearly balance sheet press conference and at the same time states that the private customer business is in deficit can no longer be surpassed in terms of audacity, says Fritz Pöltl from the FCG-ÖAAB faction of the Chamber of Labour Vienna. As Pöltl explains, this surplus of 1.8 billion euros was only possible with a trick.
The trick
Verbund sells the electricity produced from cheap hydroelectric power just as cheaply to a subsidiary, which then trades it on the stock exchange and later passes it on to the company in the group that acts as the supplier to the end customer. When it comes to consumers, the merit order principle then comes into play. This means that the price is made dependent on the most expensive form of energy. “Wild West manners have established themselves on the energy market – also due to the lack of regulatory supervision by E-Control,” is the opinion of the consumer protection association, which defends itself once morest the practice for its customers with test cases.
