That’s not how Germany gets through the winter!
The federal government wants the gas storage tanks to be 90 percent full by November 1st. Several natural gas storage facilities are far away from that! This is the result of information from the “Gas Infrastructure Europe” association.
The Peissen natural gas storage facility (Saxony-Anhalt) is only 19.36% full, Bayernugs (Bavaria) 26.26%, Astora (Lower Saxony) 34.51% and the gas giant Uniper (NRW) 56.16%.
If the storage tanks do not fill up, gas can be bought for 15 billion euros from the state-owned KfW bank in an emergency. Then a gas emergency threatens with Bibber Winter for the citizens!
Gas storage significantly less filled than in 2020
Around two-thirds of the approximately 40 gas storage facilities in Germany are currently filled with gas (64.81%).
That is more than in the summer of the previous year – but significantly less than in the summer of 2020. The storage tanks were sometimes more than 80 percent full, in September (i.e. shortly before the start of the heating period) even more than 90 percent full.
