Dakar, Jul 20 (APS) – The President of the Republic stressed on Wednesday the importance for the government to “continue tirelessly (…) the exceptional budgetary efforts” made to subsidize energy and ensure lasting price stability basic necessities in the national territory.
While chairing the Council of Ministers, Macky Sall “particularly insisted on measures to improve the purchasing power of workers and households”, says the press release published at the end of this weekly government meeting.
He also dwelt ”on the need for the government to pursue relentlessly, in view of the international context, the exceptional budgetary efforts [fournis] to subsidize energy and ensure lasting price stability for essential commodities [dans le] National territory”.
Regarding the social situation in public universities, Macky Sall asked the Minister of Higher Education to ”create the conditions for a social dialogue essential for a peaceful progress of the academic calendar”.
The Minister of Higher Education is invited to ”ensure” the execution of this recommendation, together ”with the rectors, directors of university work centers and student representatives”.
The Head of State also invited the Minister of Fisheries to “continue consultations with all the actors, to finalize a draft consensual plan to revive small-scale fishing, which will be examined and validated (…) during of a presidential council.
Referring to the preparations for the Magal de Touba (centre), the annual pilgrimage of the Mourides, he invited the government, in particular the Minister of the Interior, to “finalize (…) an effective strategy for coordinating sectoral interventions (water, sanitation, hygiene, transport, security, etc.) in relation to the organisers”.
The Head of State also mentioned ”the optimal handling, by the government and the diplomatic and consular missions, of the requests and support needs of Senegalese abroad in terms of issuing administrative documents, supervision and support for the financing of diaspora projects”.
He also called for ”the strengthening of government support for the project to rewrite the general history of Senegal, from its origins to the present day”.
“The President of the Republic (…) welcomed the materialization of the Dakar Dem Dikk bus renewal process, with the receipt and commissioning of 33 modern intercity buses, to improve the quality of transport pending a strong acquisition of urban buses planned in the short term”, reads the press release from the Council of Ministers.
