Energie du Jura has reduced the impact of increases for its customers

Energie du Jura SA has faced many challenges resulting from the war in Ukraine. The company has been able to assume its responsibilities both in terms of security of gas supply in the Canton of Jura and in terms of carrying out innovative projects that contribute significantly to achieving the objectives of the cantonal design of the energy, writes in a press release the company at the end of its general meeting on Monday.

Concrete example: the Courtemelon power plant project, supported by EDJ since its inception, will inject local biomethane into its network next winter. EDJ is involved in several ways in the realization of the project: it operates the network, buys back all the biomethane produced as well as the ecological added value corresponding to the demand of its customers and supports the financing in the form of a loan, specifies she.

In presenting the 2020/21 management report, President Diego Brait underlined the unifying role of EDJ for gas distribution in the region in the context of the shortage announced for last winter. With gas prices soaring in October 2021, then reaching all-time highs in August 2022, all consumers suffered, EDJ found.

Responsible and aware of the problem faced by its customers, the company wanted to mitigate the shock by taking responsibility for the price increase of its upstream supplier for November 2021, i.e. an extraordinary expense of nearly 800,000 francs. The company has also committed a lot of cash to the purchase of gas inventory for use in the winter of 2022-2023, which has helped moderate prices for its customers, it wrote in its press release.

In a context of instability on the energy markets, EDJ continues to diversify its activities in the production of renewable energy and the marketing of its energy services. In particular, a partnership has been established with the company Solarify, which allows small investors to buy a panel on a roof in the Jura and obtain the corresponding returns.

Two installations, the panels of which were sold to the population in nearly a month, are under construction. Two more will go on sale soon, according to EDJ.

The new director of EDJ Enrico Riboni, a mechanical engineer from EPFL, was presented during this meeting. The shareholders approved the management report and the annual accounts for the year 2021-2022 which show a loss of barely 10,000 francs, EDJ notes again in its press release Monday evening. /ats-tna
