The project company should develop wind power and photovoltaic parks in Slovenia with an output of more than 180 megawatts, including around 140 megawatts from wind.
Other shareholders of AAE Gamit are WIG Wietersdorfer Holding GmbH, Alpen-Adria Energie GmbH, GAMIT Trgovina and the Ökoenergie Group from Wolkersdorf. The aim is to develop four wind power and four PV locations in the south of Slovenia. The Primorska region in particular is considered very suitable. If the eight projects are implemented, an electricity yield of around 360 gigawatt hours per year is expected, which corresponds to the annual electricity requirements of more than 100,000 households.
New strategic direction
The project is part of EAG’s new strategic direction called “Loop”, which is intended to bring it climate neutrality by 2035. The plan is to expand renewable energy largely in Austria, but also in Germany, Italy and Slovenia. By participating in the wind power and photovoltaic development projects in Slovenia, we are sending “a clear signal towards sustainability,” emphasized CEO Leonhard Schitter.
Upper Austria’s Environment Councilor Stefan Kaineder (Greens) reacted with criticism of the VP/FP state coalition: “It is of course clear that Energie AG also invests abroad. They would love to do more of this here in Upper Austria too. But there is still no room for that literal political tailwind from black and blue.” A meager expansion of existing wind power sites is not enough. “Four new locations are planned in Slovenia alone. The black-blue resistance must finally be ended, the potential of wind power should be used and Energie AG’s strategy should be supported,” said Kaineder, who is calling for a “location initiative for wind power”.
