Energie AG expanded its photovoltaic system in Timelkam

Energie AG has massively expanded its large-scale photovoltaic system in Timelkam. The solar power plant at the ash dump in the Mühlfeld district was expanded by 18,000 square meters, quadrupling it. The total collector area is now roughly equivalent to five football fields.

The photovoltaic system has a peak output of 1520 kilowatts. It generates 1.7 gigawatt hours of electricity per year, which corresponds to the consumption of around 500 households. Compared to fossil power plants, the PV system saves 545 tons of CO2 per year.

“We are sending a clear signal towards more sustainability and making an active contribution to a fossil-free future,” says Leonhard Schitter, CEO of Energie AG. “We want to leave our children and future generations a planet worth living in and put our energy future on a secure and sustainable footing.”

Solar power plays an important role for the energy company. By 2035, an additional 460 gigawatt hours of electricity per year are to be generated from our own solar power plants. With this ambitious project, a total of more than 130,000 households and more than 300,000 people might be supplied with sustainable solar power. The focus should be on PV generation systems in Upper Austria and Austria – but up to 40 percent of the electricity generation should also be achieved through project participation in neighboring countries. In Upper Austria itself, further PV projects are planned in the districts of Braunau, Wels, Rohrbach and Linz-Land.
